Speaking of the need for increased inspections...Guar gum from India was found to be contaminated with high levels of the dioxin pentachlorophenol (PCP). India produces 80-90% of the world's guar gum, a thickening agent used in processed foods.

Bleached flour from China was found to be contaminated with lime, an inedible substance linked to lung problems. Pulverized lime was used as an unapproved bleaching agent.
