Brands include Trader Joe's (the first product found to be contaminated was Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter), Sunland, Archer Farms, Cadia, Naturally More, and Sun Harvest.
Below is the FDA's most recent list of products recalled by Sunland Inc. All of the illnesses are linked to peanut products from one plant, and Sunland has recalled every product it produced there since March 2010.
Complete list:
FDA Investigates Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney Infections Linked to Peanut Butter made by Sunland Inc.
It amazes me how such a large swath of the country can be affected by one facility, and in such a short period of time.
I wonder if Sunland is just a packing/processing facility, or if it is also a peanut farm. If it's not a farm, those peanuts could be from *anywhere*!
ReplyDeleteWell that's a good point. I wonder where they were grown.
ReplyDelete"The majority of Sunland's peanuts are grown in the Portales area, while the balance comes from within 150 miles of the plant."

They say New Mexico has a good climate for growing peanuts. But I suppose it's not impossible to grow them in PA. It would be fun to try but I'd never get enough for a jar of peanut butter.
Should be able to grow peanuts in PA. Says here they need 120-150 growing days, so they shouldn't be any further north than garden zone 5. http://www.food-skills-for-self-sufficiency.com/growing-peanuts.html
