Dr. Mike Evans says ...
Exercise.
30 minutes a day.
I love how this video was produced.
I don't exercise for 30 minutes a day :(
Do you?
I wonder if your job is something that requires exercise, like trash collector, waitress, housekeeper, landscaper, roofer, does it still apply?
I walk around at the hospital constantly, I partly apply it! My doctors flippantly ask if I'm "getting my heart rate up". If they knew how much I ran my butt off there sometimes, they would understand there are times I do!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the 30-60min walk. Without it, I would be basket-case.

ReplyDeleteI go through waves. Sometimes I’ve very active, sometimes not. I’m a runner, but sometimes I run daily, sometimes a week may go. It’s been a few days since my last run. I dabble in yoga, I try for once a week, and was giving weight training a go this past year. I sound like a fitness nut, but I’m really not.
I also live in Manhattan NY, in a fifth floor walk-up apartment, and there’s generally more walking and carrying that goes on in an urban lifestyle compared to a suburban one.
I need to get back into a steady activity rhythm for 2012. Not so much a resolution, more of a reminder. I tend to get cabin fever in January and February, and the open air that running offers usually gets me outdoors anyway.
Got into work a little while ago. Walked here. maybe 12-15 minutes each way. Then walked up the four flights of stairs as usual since I don’t like waiting for the elevator.
ReplyDeleteBut now I sit on my butt for the rest of the day, so…
No running this morning, but perhaps tomorrow. The weather is nice an crisp so it’s inviting.
Well, I did 10 minutes of yoga this morning, which is more than I did yesterday! A walk, maybe I can start with 5 minutes. It's chilly. I'm a woos.
ReplyDeletei've always exercised; it helps me de-stress and keep my weight under control. what i do know about myself: i need a set time, and an instructor. if i've paid for a membership or class card, i'll be there no matter how cranky i am.
ReplyDeletewhen i was having weight issues, i went back over my lifestyle as a kid - i walked daily (or ran when i was late), had daily PE classes and worked at a dance studio for the free lessons. so, i started doing something physical every day, and joined gyms with cheap memberships and unlimited aerobic (that dates me) classes. there were even weight classes, which were good for me, because i hate weight training (but need it).
now it's a fast paced yoga class, because i cannot handle impact anymore. my HDL remains high, so it must be good for my heart, too.
i should wear a pedometer at work - wonder how many miles i walk every day...

I walk, run or ride my bike every morning. I also stretch for 15 minutes. I start with a 15 minute run with the dog, stretch, and then walk, bike or run for another 30 minutes first thing in the morning. I usually take a 10 minute walk at lunch and then take the dog for a 20 minute evening walk. I go in almost any weather except thunder storms or heavy rain. When I can't do my morning working I feel I lost a part of the day.
ReplyDeleteI got into running with high school track and cross country and never stopped.
I am in excellent health and keep up with folks much younger then me. Exercise every day is good.
I do take a 30-40 min. walk most days. Helps w/ weight & blood pressure--also general mood! I have seasonal part-time jobs that also require a lot of exercise--about 7 hrs a day (I always lose weight!)--but my current part-time job is a desk job, so I stand up near my chair most of the time instead of sitting.
ReplyDeleteInspired by everyone's comments, I've been trying to take a short walk each day. On my third trip out I was accosted by a dog. People and their dogs...
ReplyDeleteGet a big German Shepherd. Years ago I had a 95 pound fit and trim German Shepherd. When we walked, nothing and nobody messed with us. He was also a great personal trainer since he insisted that I go with him on two walks a day.
ReplyDeleteOf course we had him obedience trained. Its impressive to see a dog as big and strong as our German Shepherd walk at heel and under command.
Of course this is not an option for every one since big German Shepherd can be a lot of dog to handle.
You had him trained. Those are wonderful words to read. How I wish more dogs were trained!
ReplyDeleteGerman Shepherds are impressive, aren't they. A very handsome dog too.
People shouldn't be letting their dogs run loose! It's probably illegal--you might want to check the regulations in your township.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it, January 12? I'm still walking. Only about 15 minutes a day. I have a mental map of dog-free routes.
ReplyDeleteI don't trust those invisible fences!
