Nuts Online

I received a friendly, if promotional, email from NutsOnline telling me they linked to our recipe for cashew milk. Little did they know, I'm already a customer of theirs.

Nuts and seeds are difficult to keep fresh but NutsOnline does a great job. I like their organic raw pumpkin seeds (great non-meat source of zinc for vegetarians) which I brine and toast myself.

One product that keeps me coming back is their organic sun-dried tomatoes (shown). They don't use sulfur dioxide as a preservative ... just tomatoes, salt, water, citric acid ... soft, fresh, no added oil ... you can't beat them.

I'm not a rabid online shopper, but NutsOnline has some of the best customer service, product, and turnaround of any business I've encountered. Their prices are competitive and they ship overnight at no additional charge. Nice.

I've gotten roasted hazlnuts from them a couple times to make my own nutella spread. Makes crackers disappear fast!

Do they keep them fresh by refrigerating or freezing them? Just curious. I always wonder about freshness when I buy nuts at some of the local stores.

It's odd, Whole Foods, who I think would care more about these things, still uses those clear plastic bulk bins, the ones that are gravity-dispensing so they have a column of nuts or rice exposed to light and heat. The product is often oxidized/rancid, and still pricy.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Selene and Martindale's also use those bins.

I just found the nuts online site today. (after finally remembering I wanted to buy some roasted pecans and have not been able to find them in the store - raw yes - roasted no)

Before buying, I did a search and found your post. Thanks for the info about them!

It's good to find a few opinions when buying from a new place! Now I have to look around and see what else you're writing about food. Although I confess to being completely lazy when it comes to cooking. I do love reading about food and recipes (then wishing someone would make all that stuff for me!). :-)

Hi Teresa,

I wish I had a cook too!

But I do like cooking most of the time.

By the way, when I buy raw pecans I roast them in a 310 degree oven for about 8-10 minutes (less if they are small or in pieces). So good.
